Bakaliaghat, A beautiful small town of Karbi Anglong


Bakaliaghat, a small town surrounded by beautiful hills in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. The etymology of the name ‘Bakaliaghat’ came from a name of flower called ‘Bakul’. Due to variation in the topography, this place experiences different climates throughout the year. Bakaliaghat has five distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, winter and the monsoons. The annual temperature ranges from a high of 32 °C  to a low of 10°C . The lands surrounding the place have many natural resources.

The main occupation of the people is Agriculture. Different types of agricultural crops are cultivated among which paddy is the main crop. Except for the valleys, the people follow the jhum system of cultivation.

Bakaliaghat is located off the National Highway 36. It is about 60 kms from Diphu, the administrative headquarters of the district and about 200 kms from Guwahati. The place is well connected with all the parts of Assam. The nearest airport is Dimapur and  the closest major railway station is Diphu.

The majority of the populace are ethnic Assamese. The other major tribal ethnic groups  are Karbis, Bodos, Kukis and Dimasas.
